Sunday May 30, 2010 was New Hampshire day at Fenway and among the festivities of the day, 10 New Hampshire High school seniors were awarded the “New Hampshire Red Sox Scholarship”. Read the official Red Sox press release on the scholarship.
Among the recipients was Londonderry High School senior Laura Gardocki. Below is Laura’s description of her day.
When I got to Gate A I was brought in to an office building where I waited with the other scholarship recipients until we were all there. We then got brought out onto the field where we took pictures by the Green Monster. Next was the pre-game ceremony where first, New Hampshire Veterans and Olympians were honored. Then, each of the 10 scholarship recipients were greeted by John and Linda Henry, Larry Lucchino, Ben Cherington, and several other dignitaries. We were each handed a bat with our name engraved on it as we stepped forward to shake their hands. Standing on the field in front of thousands of people was exhilarating and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! From there, we went up to our seats in the Executive Suite. The view was awesome! We took turns going over to the Green Monster seats that had also been set aside for us. I was able to meet and take a photo with Governor John Lynch. Red Sox owner John Henry was kind enough to take a minute to sign my David Ortiz jersey and pose for a photo with me! It was an amazing day and to top it all off the Red Sox won!
